The Blue Flags of the Costa Blanca in 2023

The Blue Flags of the Costa Blanca in 2023

With a presence in some 50 countries, the Blue Flag has become an indisputable world standard of tourist excellence, certifying the quality of its best beaches and ports. After learning about the recent awarding of flags for the current summer season, at MPC-Builders and Real Estate we have echoed the fantastic results obtained in the awarding of the Blue Flags of the Costa Blanca in 2023.

The Blue Flag is an international distinction awarded annually to beaches, marinas and boats that meet a series of criteria related to environmental management, water quality, safety and other relevant aspects for the sustainability of coastal tourism.

The Blue Flag initiative was created in 1985 by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), a Denmark-based non-governmental organization that promotes environmental education around the world. The objective of the initiative was to promote environmental awareness in the tourism sector and promote the sustainable management of beaches and marinas.

To obtain a Blue Flag, beaches, marinas, and boats must meet a series of strict criteria related to water quality, environmental management, safety, and services. Some of the criteria include water quality, waste management, environmental education, accessibility for people with disabilities, and safety.

The Blue Flags of the Costa Blanca in 2023 - 2

Recently the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC), promoter of the initiative, released the list of the 627 blue flags that will be flown this summer on the beaches, coves and ports of our country. An event that the main tourist areas await with great interest. Beaches and marinas that meet the criteria receive the Blue Flag for use for one year. However, the renewal of the Blue Flag depends on the standards being maintained and improved over time. In other words, the Blue Flag is not a lifetime award, but must be “earned” each year.

Once again, the Valencian Community becomes the most awarded region in all of Spain with 153, 14 more than in 2022. Among its three provinces, the undisputed winner is Alicante, our beloved Costa Blanca, which obtains 69 Blue Flags on its beaches , and 16 in its marinas. As novelties, this year it is worth noting that Cala de Finestrat recovers the badge that it lost in last year’s edition. If we focus the focus by municipalities, Orihuela is the town with the most Blue Flags, 11, making it the second city in the entire country.

At MPC-Builders and Real Estate we are pleased that, once again, a large part of the beaches that make up our coastline have been recognized for meeting very high quality standards in their bathing waters, in their lifeguard services, and in their services and public information systems. Undoubtedly, the best letter of introduction to our Mediterranean lifestyle, and one more compelling reason to consider the acquisition of your new home on the Costa Blanca.
